People do outrageous things to guarantee the gender of their unborn children, but a 36-year-old woman from Wuhan, China takes the cake.
China now allows parents to have a second child, and the 36-year-old woman, who goes by the name Liu, did everything in her power to guarantee her next child was a boy. Since Liu already birthed a girl, she wanted to ensure that the family name would be carried on with the birth of a boy, so she searched internet forums for ways to guarantee gender.
Liu read that if you have a diet consisting of alkalescent foods one month before conception, the birth of the child would be male. That is exactly what she did. She loaded up her diet with nothing but kelp for two straight weeks, which inevitably led to health problems.
Liu was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism, which is an inflammation of the thyroid. According to a doctor with the New River Hospital in Hubei, the condition can affect a woman’s chance of conception. Luckily for Liu, the condition was caught early on.
Remember, folks – just because you read something on the internet doesn’t mean it’s true!
